A quiet April on the blog has been anything but at the writing table, mostly situated up on the 8th floor of the National Library again on Victoria Street here in Singapore.
Chief focus has been a novella developed from the Jogja period of October – November for a competition in Australia. This is the reason why the posts of those months have been recently taken down. For all such competitions, and indeed higher-end journal submissions, the stipulation is of no previous publication in any form.
After extensive re-shaping and revisions a 20,000 word MS has been formed that is part travel odyssey, part cultural exploration, a kind of love story, and as they say, so much more…. Submitted end of last week.
Otherwise a spot of good news on the publication front: Ambit Magazine, London, where J G Ballard had a long association both as editor and contributor, and where the current Laureate edits the poetry—first gay and first Scot so honoured—will be publishing a sequence of flash-fiction from the Singaporean writing. Due out in the northern summer.
