Malaysian PM Najib under attack
on numerous fronts for a range of deeply concerning matters has responded with
libel actions against critics. (A common recourse in this region.) In a recent
radio broadcast the PM warned the populace against “information
democratization”….
Here in Singapore a somewhat more sophisticated campaign
of a not dissimilar kind: at the National Library for example two years or so
prominent placards alerting to unfounded slurs and innuendo. S.U.R.E—Source, Understand, Research, Evaluate
Campaign. One cannot be too careful; much unfounded dangerous gossip in the air
and ever increasing with the new technology. They are unused to criticism here.
Yesterday a sixteen year old Blogger was remanded in custody overnight because
of offensive online posting. Attacking Christians and the recently departed
founding father of the Republic, Mr. LKY in this instance. Handsome reckless
mop-topped young lad reportedly munching on a banana as he entered the courtroom.
