Sixteen participating cafes here offering 10%
reductions for meals taken by children in the company of their parents. The
scheme was initiated by four undergrads and has attracted 200 participants in
the three weeks it has run. A Call to
Care campaign it is named. Currently government here is attempting to
structure housing arrangements that enable parents to live closer to their children;
a few decades ago the same government created financial incentives to encourage
graduate mothers to have more children (after some time before attempting to
limit family-size by disincentives). An absorbing politico-social laboratory on
the little red dot on the equator, transformed unrecognizably in the last few decades in the much trumpeted
transition from Third World to First.
